day 2
It's really nice working at the police HQ. Everyone's so nice and friendly and there's even a stove with rangehood in the staff lunchroom. It's the ultimate cushy job with nice comfy office with air conditioning. Plus it's probably the safest place in the city! [from crime that is...] There're 3 security doors I've to get through to get in!

Australia day means a lot to me because we've been through so much to be able to celebrate this day. This country, with its freedom, respect for mankind, its Christian values and its beauty is so precious that it's definitely worth celebrating. Here're some pics from today.

Gav and I found this in the Monash Community Garden. We've been walking around uni the past few days discovering new things each time, and with the lovely weather around 8pm, it's a great way to get some fresh air! There many little gardens, small ponds and interesting flowers and plants to look at. Above, a snow pea plant with its sweet tiny flower on top and a pea pod!

Why should offence be taken, where none was intended?

"Once upon a time in Asia, we were a nation that many respected but now....we could be the laughing stock of the world because of the many disgraceful incidents in our country that have not only dented our morale, unity but also international repute."
Do you want to know the true state of affairs in Malaysia?"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well" (Matthew 6:33, NIV).
this verse is quite ironic in that... many take it on its own, separate it from its context and use it as a means to the end. the 1st bit becomes just the means to the end [of getting everything else that you want] but that is the whole opposite to what this verse is trying to say! if you read the whole passage.... it really talks about giving up what you want in life. giving up your own dreams of having a BMW in a huge home with a pool, poodle and fountain in the front yard. Yes, what if God calls you to give these up, and instead live a difficult life, where you're only living from one paycheck to another? But always full of Him, being in His presence always, and being used for His kingdom mightily? This is what it really means to seek His kingdom first. None of the apostles ended up rich and prosperous, certainly not safe all the time, and certainly not safe in the end when they got killed! Do some Christians preach that if we pray to Jesus, we'll always be safe from harm? Yet lots of Christians die in accidents. They were saved from their sin, but not necessarily from the evil in this world. Jesus Himself didn't have a proper place to call His own, not a proper bed to lay His head.
This reminds me of those boys who were thrown into the furnace - they said that they knew God would save them, but even if He doesn't, they will remain faithful to Him and not bow down to idols.
Are we willing to say the same? Or are just in this to get something we want?

“ Tough calls require character. 'Courage is not limited to the battlefield or the Indianapolis 500 or bravely catching a thief in your house. The real tests of courage are much quieter. They are the inner tests, like remaining faithful when nobody's looking, like enduring pain when the room is empty, like standing alone when you're misunderstood.' Whether you lead a family, a business or a church, the temptation to complain comes easy. Thank God for the tough times. They're the reason you're there-to be the leader. If everything was going well you wouldn't be needed. When the tough calls must be made, your confidence can be found in these words: 'The Lord is on my side; I will not fear...' (Psalm 118:6 NKJV) ”— Chuck Swindoll

well, the new year's 19 days old and i've already heard of a few people i know/related to people i know dying. A friend's brother, a friend's father, 100,000 people in Haiti...Also, there was a car crash on Sunday in south morang where 5 kids got killed. life..it's so brief.
We've moved back to Clayton, it's so good to be back in our tiny studio apartment. here're the reasons i love it here:
1. no matter where he is in this room, Gavin's never far from me
2. Everytime we cook something, the room heats up enough to maintain a comfortable temperature for a few hours.
3. If not, there's always the air conditioning/heater
I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for a new gruelling semester at uni. I should probably hit the books already.
